Jazz Wives
Kristin Keefe

(5/18/99)

Adam Keefe isn't the only athlete in his family. His wife Kristin is a former Olympic volleyball star.

Kathy Aiken continues her series on the Jazz teammates with Kristin Keefe.

Kristin has excelled at volleyball her entire life. But now she's in a sport of a different kind-- raising twins.

It's 9:35 in the morning and that means Kristin Keefe is at the gym.

Today she brought along her workout partners-- 15-month old twins Kaitlin and McKayla.

But the workout's not for mom...or is it?

"I love it," Kristin says. "I think I burn more calories chasing them around in a day than I did before."

Before, Kristin was a volleyball star on the 1996 U.S. Olympic team. And before that, a standout at Stanford, where she met Adam.

But Kristin's volleyball days are done for now.

Today she has her hands on two different challenges.

She says, "I played a lot of volleyball for a lot of years and I always wanted to have children. I never thought I'd be lucky enough to have twins. And now that I do I'm perfectly happy being home. So I feel fortunate that I can stay home every day and enjoy them."

Kristin is grateful that she CAN stay home...whether it's reading a book, or helping the girls feed their 200 pound dog.

"They don't ever just stand right next to each other. One of them is always going in opposite directions. So I'm constantly chasing one, picking up one, changing a diaper," she says.

With their mother and father both great athletes, Kaitlin and McKayla seemed destined for a life of athletics.

At least Stanford thinks so. They already sent the girls volleyball letters of intent.

Kristin says, "I know when I was growing up I didn't want to be a cheerleader. I wanted to be on the volleyball team. And I think it's even more true now you see girls playing all sorts of sports."

"So I'm excited for them. I'm excited to have daughters."

Kristin says she and Adam would love to have more children...but she says they'll wait until she can handle the two she has.
