(SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Investigators in the Elizabeth
Smart case are pleading for help from the public.
Investigators
are convinced someone knows something about the kidnapping,
or at least something about Richard Ricci's whereabouts following
the kidnapping.
Police
maintain Ricci was lying when he denied having his Jeep Cherokee
in the days following Elizabeth's disappearance.
"The passage of time may motivate somebody to come forward
who has been afraid to come forward for whatever reason up
until this point," says Grant Mendenhall, F.B.I. supervisory
special agent.
Police still want to talk to the man who picked Ricci up from
an auto repair shop a few days after the kidnapping.
They say it's possible they may have already spoken with the
driver, but they need more help to pinpoint just who that
person is.
