With Thanksgiving upon us, toy shopping may be on your list.

The holiday shopping season traditionally begins in earnest the day after Thanksgiving.

And today, the government and consumer groups urged parents to make toy safety a top priority as they purchase gifts.

The consumer product safety commission issued a reminder list of toys that have been recalled, and the U.S. public interest research group released a checklist of toy safety tips.

The government and consumer groups urge parents to make toy safety a top priority as they purchase holiday gifts.

A U.S. public interest group, PIRG, has released its list of the Top Ten Most Dangerous Toys.

They say you should avoid toys that post choking hazards because of small parts, and loud toys that could cause hearing loss.

'Lil Chefs Market, a 50-piece play food set is one item that tops the PIRG list.

Also the Musical Mobile Merry-go-Round, and the Lego Patrol Car.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission is also reminding parents about toys it recalled earlier this year, including air-powered rockets and planes and red fire engines that have lead paint.

And another public interest and kids advocacy group, the Lion and the Lamb project, is urging parents to choose toys and games that are peaceful and avoid ones that promote violence.
