Mental health professionals have designated today National
Depression Screening Day.
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, more
than 19 million Americans suffer from clinical depression
each year.
It's as common as asthma or diabetes, but unlike those conditions,
depression often times goes undiagnosed or untreated.
As part of a nationwide screening effort, drug maker Forest
Pharmaceutical has created an online self-screeing test.
The test asks questions about a person's mood, sleep and eating
patterns as well as self-image and ability to concentrate.
Mental health experts caution that such tests should only
be used as a guide for diagnosis.
