Jan. 4, 2001-- City officials from western Weber County have given transportation planners the go-ahead to map out a corridor envisioned for a stretch of the proposed Legacy Highway.
That stretch would be between the north Davis County line and 12th Street in Ogden.
Despite the corridor preservation proposal, Weber County likely will not see any piece of the Legacy Highway for at least 20 years, officials said. However, while working on the corridor study, planners were able to map out a future regional transportation plan to support traffic on the northern section.
The first segment of the Legacy Highway, between Salt Lake City and Farmington, still awaits Environmental Protection Agency approval. The route goes through wetlands and if the EPA does give its approval, environmentalists plan a court challenge.
