Legacy Highway Public Hearing

Links and Details of Legacy Highway Proposal

It's one of the hottest topics around: Whether or not to build the proposed Legacy Highway, and where to build it, if so?

A standing room only crowd of about 1,000 people packed a public hearing at Bountiful Junior High Wednesday night. Utah Department of Transportation officials called the meeting to get public feedback, and they got an earful.

UDOT calls the proposed highway a solution to transportation problems. But nearly everyone who attended the public hearing called the plan flawed at best. One speaker called building a highway in a floodplain "illegal," saying the environmental impact statement doesn't look at other transportation options. Another speaker voiced concerns about a new highway just encouraging people to drive more, adding to traffic congestion problems.

UDOT opened the meeting by giving advice to homeowners and business owners who would have to relocate if the highway is built along the preferred route. Some residents voiced concern over that.

Nearly 100 people spoke up Wednesday night. If you would like to comment, contact UDOT. You have until November 7th.
