There's more rumbling over construction plans for Legacy Highway.
Last week, a Farmington neighborhood rallied against gravel trucks rolling through their streets at all hours.
Now, another nearby neighborhood wants to stop the contractor from leveling a hillside and hauling the gravel to the highway.
News Specialist Jed Boal has the details.
The people who live near the Farmington-Centerville line want to stop a problem before it starts.
The contractor building Legacy Highway wants to dig up the hillside, haul the dirt and gravel to the highway for road base, and prepare this area for 200 high-end houses.
The people who live here say they want to save their hillside, and they gathered Thursday night at Reading Elementary School to lay out their objections to the contractor.
Opponents of the excavation expect plenty of noise, dust and dangerous traffic as trucks make as many as 300,000 trips loaded with dirt.
The contractor still has not applied for a permit for the excavation and says there would be only 75,000 truck trips over a 14-month period, to haul out more than 1-million cubic yards of gravel.
Residents who live nearby say their community is in jeopardy.
This citizens group with the backing of the cities of Farmington and Centerville plan to fight with facts to protect the hillside. The contractor will apply with permits as early as October.
