Legacy Highway (From Utah Department of Transportation) The Legacy West Davis Highway is the first segment in the proposed Legacy Highway, which would eventually run from Brigham City to Nephi. This segment runs from I-215 in the south to the area of the I-15-U.S. 89 interchange in Farmington. UDOT says traffic studies show that the 13-mile, 4-lane highway is essential to meet demand by the year 2020. Construction is proposed to begin in the spring of 1999.
On April 7, the Utah Transportation Commission voted for alignment C. This is the highway route that Governor Leavitt and Davis County city leaders support. They say alternatives that would run the highway farther east would have a greater impact on residents. The Army Corps of Engineers does not support alignment C because the alternatives would have less impact on surrounding wetlands. The Corps says it is bound by law to choose the least invasive option. Environmentalists and some citizens oppose alignment C because of potential impact on wildlife and wetlands. Interchanges are proposed at Parrish Lane in Centerville and 500 South in Bountiful. These sites were selected based on whether traffic figures for the year 2020 showed a need, community support and whether the interchange could serve as an alternate route/connector to I-15.
