Computer giant, Intel, says it's coming to Utah.
It plans to build a research and development center in Riverton.
News Specialist, Shelley Osterloh, reports from where the new complex will
be built.
Intel plans to take this wide open property and -over the next 10 or 20
years -turn it into campus of buildings devoted to research and development.
The multi-building complex would be work space for about 8,000 people.
Intel was also considering sites in Nevada and Arizona.
So, Utah sweetened the deal for Intel. Last September, Utah's Board of
Business and Economic Development approved a $5-million loan to the company as
incentive.
Intel is the world's largest chip manufacturer and leader in computer
components... employing about 65,000 people.
The company currently has a research and development plant in American Fork
which employs about 400 Utahns.
Intel says one reason it selected the Riverton site is the quality of
highly trained people coming from Utah's universities.
It expects the computer science and engineering programs to supply the
company with an advanced workforce.
