President Clinton's case will go to the senate as the House of Representatives on Saturday impeached President Clinton for lying under oath about his sexual affair with Monica Lewinsky, and obstruction of justice. They rejected two article of impeachment. The impeachment vote was only the second in American history .

The House voted 228-206 to approve the first article of impeachment, accusing President Clinton of committing perjury before a federal grand jury.

It then rejected a second article that accused Clinton of perjury in the Paula Jones sexual harassment lawsuit. The vote on that one was 229-to-205. More than two dozen Republicans joined Democrats in defeating the impeachment article, while five Democrats voted in favor.

The vote to approve Article Three on obstruction of justice was 221-212. The vote to reject Article Four, which alleged abuse of power, was 285-148.

Earlier Democrats had tried to get the House to consider censure, rather than impeachment -- but Republicans blocked that effort. It prompted a Democratic walkout from the House chamber in protest.
