If you use I-15 to get to work, your commute is about to change.
Several significant on and off ramps will be opening in the next month or so.
News Specialist Richard Piatt reports.
The folks on the I-15 project call these openings milestones in the over-all project.
We're talking major openings: The 4th South bridge, the 6th South bridge, and the I-80 link with I-15 northbound.
The I-15 team is finishing up construction on all these places.
For two years, the I-15 project has affected the way people get around in a major way.
Now, finally, good news about how you can get around.
Joe Walker/I-15 Public Information: "It's not the final payoff by any stretch of the imagination, and we're not done by a long shot. But we're at a point in the project where we're going to be seeing more of these kinds of openings, more conveniences and fewer inconveniences."
Here's how this will happen:
September 27th UDOT will open the 400 South bridge and the southbound on-ramp to I-15. This will replace the 900 South on-ramp.
October 5th, UDOT will open the 600 South off ramp. This has the potential to literally opening the door to downtown, and help commuters and shoppers.
That same day, the I-80 bridge to I-15 northbound will open too.
That's good news for people who have been stuck on 21st South for the last couple years.
Again, 4th South will open next week, September 27th, and 6th South and I-80 to I-15 north will open October 5th.
Both those dates are part of the contract, so, yes we're sure they're going to open on time.
