Sandy Power Outage Tuesday, July 14 Sandy residents can put away the candles and flashlights, and enjoy the cool comforts of air conditioning. The power is back on, and officials say it will stay on. Last night the power was turned off in nearly 1,200 homes while crews fixed an underground power line. Utah power hopes to keep up with summer electricity demands. But officials warn that residents living in the middle or southern parts of Salt Lake County, could find themselves without enough power again. Monday, July 13 Nowhere in the state is the heat felt more than an area in Sandy that was without electricity all Monday evening. The outage hit an area roughly between 114th South and 118th South and 17th East and 3000 East. The lights ... and more importantly, the air conditioners ... went out about 4:30 Monday afternoon. News Specialist Karen Schaler reports. Utah Power and Light says it had to shut off the power for several hours so it could fix an underground power line. This meant about 1,200 homes had to deal with the hot afternoon weather without any air-conditioning or electricty of any kind. People in Sandy say they're used to this, but they don't like it. The power company says the problem should be fixed by Tuesday morning, and hopefully there won't be anymore outages like this. Earlier Monday, a little north of the affected area, about 2,500 people lost their power for about two hours. Power company officials say that outage was a different problem. They fixed it quickly, and say even with more hot weather coming up, if all the equipment holds up there shouldn't be any more problems.
