Girl Dies of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

August 19, 2002--

A girl died on Lake Powell over the weekend from carbon monoxide poisoning.

She and a friend were washing their hair near the exhaust of a cabin cruiser, parked in the Halls Creek Bay area of Lake Powell. The children were using water warmed by the boat's exhause to rinse themselves.

The friend left to have lunch. Shortly after, the girl was found floating in four feet of water.

Twelve people have died from carbon monoxide poisoning at Lake Powell since 1994.
