Gunowners in Utah can pick up free gun locks this month.
Project Homesafe kicked off its program at the Capital today.
Organizers expect to give away 50- to 60- thousand gun locks during its tour here.
Lieutenant Governor Olene Walker and local law enforcement are urging gunowners to be more responsible and keep their guns in a safe place.
They say many gun accidents could have been prevented if safety devices had been used.
Olene Walker/Utah Lt. Governor: "Over the years, we've had incidents of kids goofing off with guns, and been injured and had fatalities. Certainly, if it had a gun lock at the time, lives would have been saved."
The nationwide project is funded by the firearms industry and a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice.
