Charity Ride

June 25, 2001-- It's not your typical motorcycle gang.

NASCAR driver Kyle Petty led a fleet of bikers into Draper as part of his 7th annual Charity Ride Across America.

This is the group's first year in Utah.

The ride benefits several children's hospitals and has a number of sponsors, including the Red Wing Shoe Company and Victory Motorcyles.

The bikers kicked things off Sunday in Folsom, California, and will end the week in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Petty says the event has raised $2.5 million over six years.

Kyle Petty: "YOU'RE IN A UNIQUE POSITION WHERE YOU HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF CELEBRITY, SO YOU MIGHT AS WELL USE IT TO HELP OTHER PEOPLE."
