Retailers say DVD players are the hottest piece of electronic equipment on the market.
But before buying one yourself,
News Specialist Scott Light has done the shopping for you at online and electronics stores.
He tells us which one is best in this week's E-Exam.
This E-Exam is on DVD players.
JVC 523GD
RC Willey & Circuit City- about $225
Crutchfield.com - $250
Ecost.com - $195
A JVC model at both RC Willey and Circuit City stores comes in around $225-dollars not including tax.
Crutchfield.com -- $250.
The cheapest by far was Ecost.com.
Pioneer DV333
Ecost.com - $230
Crutchfield.com & Circuit City - $240-plus
Ecost.com won again on a Pioneer DVD at $230.
Sony 670D
Circuit City - $436.49
RC Willey, Roxy.com & AbtElectronics.com - $450
Circuit City did win on a particular Sony model, over RC Willey and two websites.
If prices are within a couple bucks of each other, you save money on the internet because you don't pay sales tax. Even if you pay shipping charges, you still save. Look at this:
$250 DVD
Crutchfield.com shipping - $9.95
Store sales taxes - $15-plus
Obviously, stores provide personal customer service and you can walk out with what you buy.
That's something Nate Dallimore likes.
Plus..
Nate Dallimore/Shopper: "IF YOU WANT TO RETURN IT, IT'S EASIER TO GO TO A LOCAL MERCHANT THAN SHIPPING IT BACK AND FORTH."
Local retailer RC Willey says people are definitely price shopping the internet for comparisons.
With big ticket items, no sales tax can be a factor.
Don Herrera/RCWilley: "THAT'S A BIG ISSUE RIGHT NOW. USUALLY WE TRY TO MEET THEM HALFWAY ON THE PRICE, JUST DEPENDING ON THE PIECE, MEET THEM HALFWAY AND THAT USUALLY WILL SUFFICE."
Scott Light/Eyewitness News: "STORES LIKE RC WILLEY AND CIRCUIT CITY HAVE PRICE GUARANTEES WITH OTHER LOCAL STORES.
EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE COMPETITIVE WITH THE INTERNET, THEY CAN'T GUARANTEE A MATCH OF INTERNET PRICES."
