Workshop Findings

The group Envision Utah on Tuesday released the results of 15 workshops it held in July, to get comments on how to plan for growth along the Greater Wasatch area of Utah.
Here are some of the major findings:

North Region

  • Preserve foothill areas, Wasatch Mountains and canyons, wetlands, and some agricultural land from future development.
  • Redevelop and infill older areas in Weber and Davis Counties.
  • Explore mixed-use and higher density development.
  • Wasatch Back should experience limited development.
  • Create more jobs and industry in towns in the region-- reducing the number of commuters to Salt Lake.
  • Build the Legacy Highway.
  • Create mass transit alternatives.

    Central Region

  • Preserve foothill areas, Wasatch Mountains and canyons, Oquirrh Mountains, wetlands, and some agricultural land from future development.
  • New development areas will be western Salt Lake Valley, Tooele area, Cedar Valley, northern Utah County, and along current and future transportation corridors.
  • Explore mixed-use and higher density development.
  • Wasatch Back should experience limited development.
  • Create mass transit alternatives.

    South Region

  • Preserve foothill areas, wetlands and some agricultural land from future development.
  • Redevelop and infill older areas of Provo and Orem.
  • Major new development areas will be in northern Utah County and Cedar Valley. Southern Utah County will experience lower levels of growth.
  • Build Legacy Highway.
  • Create mass transit alternatives.
  • Build causeway across northern part of Utah Lake, linking Provo/Orem to western shore.

    Wasatch Back

  • Preserve foothill areas, Wasatch Mountains and canyons, wetlands, and some agricultural land from future development.
  • Designate additional lands as open space.
  • Redevelop and infill small town centers.
  • Wasatch Back should experience limited development.
  • Create mass transit alternatives.
