Prop. 5: Wildlife Board
(9/23/98)
At least two Utah groups say they're investigating the state's Wildlife
Board.
The board today announced it supports proposition 5, which would increase
number of votes needed from 50 percent to two-thirds, whenever
wildlife initiatives are on the ballot in the future.
But the board's endorsement came without a public discussion about it.
Anti-proposition 5 groups say the board violated the state's open meeting
law.
Kirk Robinson/Predator Education Fund: "Whether they realize it or not,
what they had was legally regarded as a meeting to come to this stage of a
press conference, to unanimously support proposition 5."
The board denies it has done anything illegal or improper.
It says it's members support proposition 5 because they care about Utah's
wildlife.
