New County Government Proposal: Opposition
(10/12/98)
Salt Lake County may soon be changing it's form of government.
But a group opposing a County Mayor and Council, is trying to prevent
the change from happening.
Their theory: Why fix the current form of government if it's not
broken.
Co-founders of "Citizens for Sensible County Government" held a press
conference this morning, to voice concerns about the proposed change.
KAREN NIELSON/CITIZENS FOR SENSIBLE GOVERNMENT: " THE SINGLE COUNTY
EXECUTIVE MAY HAVE SIMPLY TOO MUCH POWER. THIS PLAN VESTS MOST OF THE POWER OF
COUNTY GOVERNMENT INTO A SINGLE EXECUTIVE."
The committee also fears that a County Council will become very expensive,
because it would have a larger staff.
The issue will be on the November ballot.
