Triad Shooting Suspect Appears in Court
(1/28/99)
The woman accused of murder in this month's Triad Center shooting made her
first court appearance today.
The question--is she competent to stand trial?
De-Kieu Duy--also known as "Lisa Q" is accused of opening fire inside the
Triad Center, killing 30-year-old Anne Sleater--an AT&T employee and new
mother.
Today, Duy's lawyer, Paul Quinlan, says he'll be filing a competency
petition. "Because our client has some significant mental health issues and
they need to be evaluated before we can go forward. There's a very good chance
she's not legally competent to stand trial at this point."
Duy's mother was on hand today, but made no comment as she left the
courthouse.
