Another tire recall. This time Continental A.G. is recalling about 160,000 of its 16-inch tires.
They were standard equipment on 1998 and 1999 Lincoln Navigators made by Ford Motor Co. The specific tire being recalled is the Continental 16-inch ContiTrac A-S. The 2000 version of the Lincoln Navigator has 17-inch tires that are not being recalled.
Ford and Continental A.G. revealed last week they were looking into a half-dozen reports from Saudi Arabia of tire problems.
A source with knowledge of the recall says the problems involved tread separation similar to the Firestone troubles.
Ford and Continental say there have been no reports of major accidents, or fatalities in relation to the tires.
If you have the tires being recalled, you can take your vehicle to a Ford and/or Lincoln-Mercury dealership for inspection and information on replacement tires.
Meantime today, 15 more deaths have been reported in the federal government's probe of defective Firestone tires. That brings the total number of reported deaths in the Firestone case to 103.
