Crime.
It can happen anywhere--and that includes college campuses.
But now there's a new way to check out how safe any given college is--compared with every other school nationwide.
News Specialist John Daley has details.
The University of Utah, and all Utah's schools, do pretty well on this new index. They're all right in the middle.
What's interesting is you can compare schools around the country.
And--just like everything it seems these days--all you have to do is get on the Internet.
How safe is that school?
Prospective students and concerned parents now have a new tool to find out.
On the world wide web, there's a site called APBnews.com, which we showed to the University of Utah's Kevin Nollenberg.
A company called CAP Index ranks nearly 1500 colleges nationwide.
For each college community, there's a colorful map rating neighborhoods from 1 to 10--ten being the most risky.
The index is based on violent crime statistics: homicide, rape and robbery.
Not surprisingly--small rural colleges tend to be safest. Schools located in the heart of big cities are less safe.

Utah's schools are lumped in the middle of the pack, with a moderate crime risk.
Southern Utah University has the highest crime risk--ranking 722 on the list; BYU and the U of U are tied at 779, Westminster College comes in at 927--the safest school in Utah according to the list.
Recent graduate Martha Poelman says the website is unlikely to determine a prosprective student's college choice, but it is interesting information.
Four of the five least safe schools are in Atlanta--including Morris Brown College which tops the list.
The safest school?
Anna Maria College--50 miles west of Boston.
