Jordan Buses: Facts and Figures

The Jordan School District spends $40,000 a year on fuel for school buses. District leaders say by cutting those costs, they could provide better services, like more field trips, etc. One way to save-- powering buses with natural gas.

Costs to run a bus (per mile)

  • Regular gasoline- 71 cents
  • Diesel- 40 cents
  • Natural Gas- 23 cents

The average bus in the Jordan District travels 90 miles per day. By converting to natural gas, the district could save about $50 per bus, per day. If one bus were converted to natural gas, the savings over one year could:

  • Buy 200,000 pencils
  • Buy 257 desks and chairs
  • Fund textbooks for nine classes
  • Fuel your car for about seven years

The savings from ten buses, over one year, could buy one brand new bus.

The cost of converting a bus to natural gas is $24,000.
