Father Suprised He Didn't Hear Intruder

Speaking on CNN this morning, Ed Smart, the father of a girl kidnapped yesterday, says his bedroom is near a central hallway and he's surprised he didn't hear anything.

He said, "I can't imagine how I didn't hear it."

His 14-year-old daughter, Elizabeth Smart, was taken from the bedroom she shares with her 9-year-old sister early yesterday morning. Police are saying the man who took her carried a gun.

Standing next to his wife, Ed Smart told CNN that authorities are not sure what entrance the man used to enter the house. A screen on a window was torn, but the window is small and elevated, he said.

Ed Smart said his home has an alarm, but it's not turned on at night. And he confirmed that his daughter didn't use the Internet.
