Execution Schedule

A timeline of Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh's execution in Terre Haute, Ind. (times are Mountain Time):

SUNDAY:

6 a.m.: McVeigh no longer allowed to make personal calls. Only contact will be with his attorneys.

11 a.m.: McVeigh served final meal of his choice, which can be anything from any Terre Haute restaurant as long as it costs less than $20. Will be allowed to eat regular prison fare at night and in morning before execution.

5 p.m.: Pro- and anti-death penalty protesters allowed to begin gathering at two Terre Haute parks.

10 p.m.: Prison officials give first media briefing regarding execution.

11:01 p.m.: Protesters begin arriving by bus to prison grounds. Will be kept in separate areas about 500 yards apart.

MONDAY:

3 a.m.: Media pool selection process begins.

3:12 a.m.: Anti-death penalty protesters and some inmates on federal death row begin Circle of Silent Witness, 168 minutes of silence leading up to execution. Each minute commemorates a bombing victim.

4 a.m.: Visitors, restricted to family, spiritual advisers and attorneys, must leave. McVeigh has no further contact with anyone besides prison officials.

5 a.m.: McVeigh strip-searched, then dressed in khaki pants, white shirt and slip-on shoes, shackled and escorted to death chamber.

5:15 a.m.: Execution staff brought together for final instructions.

6 a.m.: Execution scheduled to begin.
