Dangerous Toys
Christmas is fast approching and gifts are already flying off the
shelves.
Today, a national consumer group issued its list of the ten most dangerous.
The group says parents should take care when buying toys for their children because some of them may not be safe.
Colorful, cute and cuddly.
They look innocent enough. But they're just some of the toys that made the Boston-based group "World Against Toys Causing Harm's" (W.A.T.C.H.) ten worst toy list.
The group ranks the Super-Power Slingshot as most dangerous.
James Swartz, WATCH: "That is not a safe product. It's not even a toy. It's a weapon, but
it's sold as a toy."
Next, a feather boa.
Swartz: "There is a potential risk of strangulation here."
Third on the list, an inflatable Super Trampoline.
W.A.T.C.H. says the toy gives mixed safety messages.
But what about this cuddly bear?
Swartz: "This ball can be mouthed and ingested by small children. It should never be sold for small children or babies."
Another toy on the list, the Toby The Watch-Dog pull toy.
W.A.T.C.H. says the long cord could hurt children.
The group says parts on the My Love Doll could fall off and choke a child.
And the cord on the talking Babe toy is also cause for concern.
Swartz: "The cord as you see forms a loop, like a noose."
And what about the Tornado Vortex Gun that shoots thick
rubber bands? W.A.T.C.H. says the dangers here are obvious.
Swartz: "The hazards we talk about are hazards that once you teach consumers what to look for, they can find these hazards for themselves."
Also making the list: Little red wagons.
The watch-group says the wagon's sides may come off, exposing screws that could hurt a child.
