Women's Basketball Wins the Gold
SYDNEY, Australia --
The United States won the women's Olympic basketball gold medal, beating the home team in the title game.
The Americans mowed down Australia 76-to-54 for the crown.
U-S teams have now won 25 straight games while winning the Olympic titles in 1996 and 2000 and the 1998 world championship crown.
The U-S squad led by 13 at halftime and the Aussies drew no closer than seven the rest of the way.
Lisa Leslie and Natalie Williams led the United States with 15 points each. Sheryl Swoopes scored 14 and Yolanda Griffith added 13.
