TRAX Available for Those Attending LDS General Conference

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah—The Utah Transit Authority Board of Directors' decision to allow private groups to make TRAX service available after-hours or on Sundays has prompted The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to ask for TRAX service for the Sunday sessions of its 170th Annual General Conference on April 2nd. The request is intended to relieve downtown traffic congestion.

Anyone using TRAX on Sunday, April 2, will pay regular fare, and the Church will make up any deficit, should there be one, to fully cover Utah Transit Authority (UTA) operating costs. UTA passes will be honored.

On Sunday, April 2, TRAX will make its regularly scheduled stops. TRAX trains will leave the Sandy Civic Center stop at 10000 South at 7:45 A.M. every 15 minutes until 6:30 P.M. From 6:30 P.M. to 10:30 P.M., TRAX trains will depart every 30 minutes. Those using TRAX park-and-ride lots are encouraged to carpool to maximize parking availability. UTA buses will not be operating.

Bishop H. David Burton, the Presiding Bishop of the Church, says: "The issue of public transportation to access places of worship is not contrary to Church teachings to honor the Sabbath. Providers of other public services, such as police, medical professionals, and emergency response personnel, are also called on whenever people meet in large numbers. -- Source: LDS.Org Press Release
