There are so many things going on in Ogden's First Night 2000, it's hard to say where to start...
2000 Happens!! Entertainment Line-up:
Mark Livingston, Hypnotist
3 Shows -- 7:00 pm, 8:30 pm & 10:00 pm
Egyptian Theater

Would you like to enter the next Millennium in an altered state of mind—or would you prefer to watch your significant other impersonating his favorite Heavyweight Wrestler. Mark’s show is certain to have several people rolling on the floor—probably at the same time. Forget those one-on-one hypnotist shows, Mark goes for ‘bulk rate’—twenty people at a time (willing volunteers only) take center stage to go under his spell. The result is always surprising, and it will take you a while to wipe that ear-to-ear grin off your face when its all over. According to Mark, It’s the volunteers who are the real stars of his show. No Hollywood actors here-- these are your friends and family as you’ve never seen them before! But don’t be shy, all volunteers receive a special gift from Mark—a calming sense of peace and well-being to carry them into the next millennium. Last year, this venue was standing room only for all three shows, so you better get in line!

Ryan Shupe and The Rubberband
7:30-9:00pm
Grand Ballroom, Eccles Conference Center

Known locally as the "Newgrass Kid," Ryan and his flexible band blaze an upbeat trail through American Bluegrass with their own contemporary blend of Rock, Folk, Jazz and Pop in a self-described "neo-hippie-rock-jam" sound which defies traditional style categorization: try looking under "PostHeeHawFunkadelicHipHopNewgrass!" Their latest CD, "Simplify," is fresh out of the studio this summer, featuring Ryan Shupe on lead vocals, fiddle, mandolin, and guitar; Wally Barnum on bass; Roger Archibald on guitar; Craig Miner on banjo, bouzouki, guitar, and mandolin; and Rory Carrera on drums. Ryan's pickin’ ranks with the best of his national bluegrass peers, and the band's performance is always a treat for the feet, as well as the ears. Guaranteed to rattle the ceiling of Conference Center.

Zion Tribe
9:30pm –12:10am
Grand Ballroom, Eccles Conference Center

If you didn’t catch Zion Tribe’s dancing room only performance at The Utah Arts Festival or Talent in the Park—don’t stress. They’re coming back to Ogden to shake things up! This group dives headlong into reggae and world beat rhythms and hardly comes up for air! A live performance by the Tribe is always a dynamic, energetic affair with plenty of drums, Afro-Latin rhythms and some reggae to boot. We won’t even mention their tasty Grateful Dead covers. hic. Their most recent CD, "Barre Chords," features eight tracks of an eclectic brew of rock, ska and blues, including covers of Van Morrison’s "Moon Dance," and "Absolute Perfection" by Pato Banton. Zion Tribe is one of only three Utah bands selected to grace KRCL’s coveted "Bellyful of Music," CD (you have to pledge $$ to get one). Combining electric guitar, bass, guitar, keyboards, drums and lead vocalist, Betsy Elder, this music is not for the hearing impaired!

Ken Culmone & His Kings of Swing
8:00pm –12:10am
Main Ballroom, Eccles Conference Center

This Royalty of Swing has been holding court all summer in Woods Cross High School doing their Swing City with a sixteen-piece, jumpin’ & Jivin’, skirt-twirling, high-flying, fancy-dancing, got-what-it-takes-to-go-all-night band! No kidding, these guys are the "real deal," so if you’ve got what it takes to swing all night, this is the place. (Participation not advised for pregnant women or folks with pace makers—but come anyway--swing is a fantastic spectator sport! Dance Instructors will be on-hand to refresh those rusty ankles and dusty memories.
