Brigham Young Hammers Murray State in Provo, 43-9
PROVO, Utah - Kevin Feterik and Drew Miller threw for a combined 313 yards and two touchdowns as Brigham Young routed Division I-AA Murray State 43-9 Saturday. BYU (2-2) did little to resolve its latest quarterback controversy, as Feterik and Miller threw touchdown passes and led the Cougars on sustained scoring drives. Ronney Jenkins also rushed for two touchdowns. The Racers (3-1), who have the fifth-best I-AA offense, were largely helpless against Brigham Young's bulky front line. The Cougars allowed Murray State just 35 rushing yards on 31 attempts. Four days after Miller was talked out of transferring from BYU by coach LaVell Edwards, the Cougars used Feterik and Miller extensively, with Feterik playing the first and third quarters and Miller most of the second and fourth. Feterik, however, was booed constantly by the crowd of 59,303, even after he led BYU on two third-quarter scoring drives. Feterik ended one of those drives with a 1-yard scoring plunge. Margin Hooks caught five passes for a career-high 179 yards. He scored midway through the third quarter after catching a short slant pass from Feterik and running 80 yards. Miller entered the game on Brigham Young's first play of the second quarter and promptly drove the Cougars 44 yards in five plays, completing all three of his passes before Jenkins scored on a 7-yard run.
Racers quarterback Justin Fuente, a transfer from Oklahoma who threw for 933 yards and eight touchdowns in Murray State's first three games, was just 9-for-26 for 146 yards and a touchdown. After opening the season against three nationally ranked teams, the Cougars ended their pre-Western Athletic Conference schedule with just their second game ever against a I-AA school.

BYU gets nowhere and punts from their 12 yard line. MSU makes a
drive to the 1 yard line, but cannot score. QB Fuente's pass on 3rd
and goal is intercepted by Jason Walker. MSU intercepts a pass,
but a defensive holding call returns posession to BYU. The
Cougars are forced to punt again. MSU has to punt as well, as does
BYU again.
Aaron Roderick returns another Racer punt for a gain of 36 yards to
the BYU 14 yard line. RB Ronney Jenkins then runs it in from the 11
yard line to score. Owen Pochman nails the extra point.
Following the TD, the Racer's pass is picked off by Justin Ena. But,
the Feterik fumbles, so MSU regains posession.
2nd Quarter:

Feterik and completes a 22 yard pass to Carlos Nuno. Jenkins then
runs it in from the 7 to score.
MSU punts and the Cougars advance the ball to their 40. Miller
completes two passes to Donny Atuaia, but they are forced to
punt. The Racers move it to their 42 yard line, but QB Fuentes
misses a long pass and they punt.
BYU QB Miller completes 15 and 4 yard passes and Jenkins runs
for 10 yards, but the Cougars can't go any further and have to punt.
MSU has the ball as the first half ends.
3rd Quarter:
MSU receives the punt at the 11 yard line, but they can't get the 1st
down and have to punt. Feterik, back in the game, completes
passes to T.J. Sitake and Margin Hooks. A MSU penalty puts the
ball on their 2 yard line with a 1st down. Feterik sneaks the ball in
for the TD, and Pochman completes a pass to Atuaia for the 2 point
conversion.
The Racers get the ball back but have to punt. The Cougars then
promptly give it back when Feterik's pass is intercepted by
Sebastrian Jackson. MSU can't advance and punts again. Feterik
completes a 80 yard pass to WR Margin Hooks who runs it all the
way in for the TD.
After another MSU punt, the Cougars miss a field goal attempt.

Tillman. MSU misses the extra point attempt. BYU punts again and
the quarter ends with The Racers on the 36 yard line.
