PROVO, UTAH --Luke Staley ran for 124 yards and two touchdowns and Brandon Doman threw for 222 yards and one TD, all in the first half, as BYU beat Nevada 52-7 Saturday night.

One week after a 70-35 victory over Tulane, BYU (2-0) showed its offensive outburst against the Green Wave was no accident. The Cougars led 38-0 and had 432 yards of total offense by halftime against Nevada (0-1).

BYU's defense looked much sharper in its second game.

Nevada ranked 26th in the nation in total offense last season but managed only 119 yards in the first half. Wolf Pack quarterback David Neill struggled, going 11-for-22 for 88 yards with an interception.

BYU pulled away early in the second quarter. Leading 10-0, the Cougars faced fourth-and-3 on the Nevada 44. Doman started left, then pitched to Staley, who got to the sideline and outran the Nevada defense for a 44-yard TD.

On Nevada's next possession, BYU safety Levi Madarieta intercepted a deflected pass. Five plays later, Brian McDonald-Ashford scored the first of his two TDs to give the Cougars a comfortable lead.

Doman, who was 11-of-21, came out for the second half wearing street clothes, giving way to backup Charlie Peterson. Peterson threw for 149 yards and scored two touchdowns, one coming on a 2-yard plunge.

BYU's Aaron Edmonds punted once in the first half and finished with three punts against Nevada. He now has only five punts through the first two games of the season.

The Cougars preserved the shutout until midway through the fourth quarter when reserve quarterback Zack Threadgill scored on a 10-yard run for Nevada's only points.
