-- After breaking a sweat twice in the last three games, Brigham Young had no trouble on Saturday.
Brandon Doman threw four touchdown passes and ran for another as 13th-ranked Brigham Young continued its best start in 17 years with a 63-33 rout of Air Force in the Mountain West Conference.
The Cougars (7-0, 3-0) struggled past New Mexico last week and Nevada Las Vegas on September 29, but Gary Crowton's club came ready to play on Saturday, scoring 21 points in each of the first three quarters.
While other surprising teams such as Fresno State and Toledo suffered their first losses this weekend, BYU continues to enjoy its best start since winning the national title in 1984 with a 13-0 record.
"We still have a lot of football. We've got six games left and a lot can happen," BYU coach Gary Crowton said. "We're not going to take anyone lightly."
The game featured 1,113 yards, 611 by Brigham Young.
The 42 first-half points were the most allowed by Air Force since Fisher DeBerry took over in 1984.
"BYU has a mighty fine football team," DeBerry said. "We were beaten in every phase of the game tonight. We did not compete in characteristic Falcon tradition, which is very disappointing. But as I told our football team, we lost to a good football team."
Doman completed 20-of-32 passes for 338 yards with four TDs and also scored on a seven-yard run in the first quarter.
Luke Staley, who was held out of the New Mexico game because the university was concerned that his course load may have fallen below the NCAA minimum of 12 credits, carried 14 times for 134 yards and two scores.
Both Doman and Staley played just one series into the second half.
Tight end Doug Jolley also had a huge game for the Cougars, catching 10 passes for 177 yards and three scores.
"Doug's been playing real well in practice. He's been getting better and better," Crowton said. "I saw their was a real good matchup with Doug and their backers."
Brigham Young leads the nation in scoring at 48.9 points per game and registered its second highest total of the season. The Cougars opened the season with a 70-35 win over Tulane.
Air Force (4-2, 2-1) made the score respectable with 20 points in the fourth quarter.
Quarterback Keith Boyea had a 36-yard TD run in the first quarter and threw a 12-yard TD pass to Ryan Fleming in the second for the Falcons, who have not won in Provo since 1982.
Doman threw an 18-yard TD pass to Jolley and Staley scored on a two-yard run to give the Cougars a quick 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Boyea answered with his TD run before Doman scored on a seven-yard run.
The Cougars began to pull away in the second quarter on a 14-yard TD pass from Doman to Reno Mahe and a five-yard TD run by Staley that made it 35-7.
Doman hooked up with Jolley on a pair of 18-yard TD catches spanning the second and third quarters to increase the lead to 49-13.
Charlie Peterson replaced Doman and threw a seven-yard TD pass to Mike Rigell. Paul Peterson capped BYU's scoring with a two-yard run late in the third quarter.
Chance Harridge, Brandon Brown and Anthony Butler had TD runs for Air Force in the fourth quarter. Butler carried eight times for 120 yards.
