UTAH 20, BYU 14
Ute redshirt freshman quarterback Darnell Arceneaux rushed for two
touchdowns, including an eight-yard run on the first play of the
fourth quarter, as the University of Utah posted a 20-14 Western Athletic
Conference Mountain Division win over Brigham Young.
Arceneaux has won both his starts since taking over as the
starting quarterback for the Utes. He completed 11-of-19 for 115
yards and two touchdowns and ran for 63 yards and a score in
last week's 31-14 win over Rice.
Arceneaux was 13-of-21 for 208 yards and two interceptions
against BYU, while also leading the Utes on the ground with 63
yards on 19 carries. Andre Dyson had nine receptions for 143
yards, while Chris Fuamatu-Ma'Afala added 60 yards on 17
carries.
Utah (6-5, 5-3 WAC Mountain) increased its lead in the series to
47-28-4, winning its third straight game in Provo. The victory
clinched Utah's seventh straight .500 or better season.
BYU (6-5, 4-4) concluded its season with two losses,
jeopardizing its bowl hopes, though the Cougars are eligible
with six wins.
The Cougars erased a 10-0 deficit on two straight TD runs by
Brian McKenzie. His 16-yard TD run gave BYU a 14-10 lead with
12:11 remaining in the first half.
The score remained unchanged until Arceneaux's eight-yard TD run
put the Utes up 17-14 with 14:56 remaining. Tommy Truhe kicked
his second field goal, a 33-yarder, to give Utah a 20-14 lead
with 1:39 remaining.
The Utes opened the scoring on Truhe's 27-yard field goal with
11:16 remaining in the first quarter, then made it 10-0 on
Arceneaux's four-yard run with 3:33 left in the opening period.
McKenzie rushed for 95 yards on 26 carries and concluded the
regular season with 1,004 yards, becoming just the fourth
running back in BYU history to rush for at least 1,000 yards.
But Kevin Feterik was only 10-of-16 for 70 yards.

BYU - UTAH Game Recap
Source: Blue & White Sports Network
1st Quarter
Utah takes the opening kickoff and marches down the field to the BYU 11. The drive
stalls there, however, and the Utes settle for a 27-yard Tommy Truhe field goal to take
the early lead. KEY PLAYS: Kevin Dyson 38-yard kickoff return, 25-yard pass from Darnell
Arceneaux to Chris Fuamatu-Ma'afala.
On the Cougars first drive, Kevin Feterik's pass to Brian McKenzie is thrown behind
him, bounces up in the air and is intercepted by the Ute's Phil Glover on the BYU 30. Utah
cannot capitalize, though, and end up with a missed field goal on their drive.
A BYU punt leads to a Utah touchdown. Arceneaux keeps the ball himself and runs into
the endzone from 4-yards out. KEY PLAYS: 30-yard pass from Arceneaux to Dyson.
Freshman Jaron Dabney helps BYU finally get on the board. Dabney returns the Utah
kickoff 29-yards out to the Cougar 46. BYU marches down from there, and caps the drive
with Brian McKenzie's 1-yard touchdown run. KEY PLAYS: Feterik to Margin Hooks for
16-yards, McKenzie 14-yard run.
2nd Quarter
On the first play of the quarter, Utah's Arceneaux throws the ball up for grabs and
BYU's Tyler Nelson comes down with it on the Utah 29. From there, McKenzie adds his second
rushing touchdown of the game with a 15-yard score.
Utah attempts to answer with another long drive, but is stopped inside the BYU 30. A
long field goal try comes up short and the Cougars keep their 4-point lead.
3rd Quarter
With Utah driving near the BYU goal line, Tyler Nelson steps in front of a Arceneaux
pass for his second interception of the game on the BYU 1. The Cougars are forced to punt,
however, from their own endzone.
4th Quarter
A short BYU punt sets Utah up at the Cougar 42. That was too close as Arceneaux scores
on the quarterback keeper from 8-yards out. KEY PLAYS: 27-yard completion from Arceneaux
to Dyson, 11-yard Arceneaux run.
BYU mounts a drive but stalls out at the Utah 35. A 52-yard Owen Pochman field goal
falls short and Utah takes control of the ball with 8:30 remaining in the game.
Utah marches down the field, chewing up yardage and clock time. The Utes finally settle
for a 33-yard Truhe field goal to extend the lead. The 15-play drive took seven minutes
off the clock.
BYU cannot get anything done from there and turns the ball over on downs to give Utah
the victory.
