Local headlines this week --

  • It is a new 350room hotel, 12-stories tall. The Marriott Hotel Corporation will build it at the Gallivan center, construction starts next month.

  • State income taxes generated 1.4-billion dollars in Utah last year, that accounted for about 35 percent of Utah's budget. The tax commisison says it's the first time that income tax has topped sales taxes as the leading revenue-generator.

  • The Utah Film Commission has released it's fiscal year numbers, and they're impressive. Production companies spent 126-million dollars in Utah for film, TV commercials, documentaries and other projects.

  • Don't forget, a week from today, the 435 area code in Utah becomes mandatory. Basically, that's in all areas outside of the Wasatch Front. So, re-program all your speed-dialers and fax machines, you might also consider updating any printed materials with your number.
